Recently I interviewed a Taiwanese intellectual who has been to many countries and been travelling in China for a long time. He told me about his views on Taiwan Issue and re-unification.

　　He said,’ I don’t want to re-unify with Mainland of China. If I am able to control Taiwan’s future, I choose to be independent of any country. But I don’t agree with Li Denghui or Chen Shuibian. The reason is that they are so impatient to solve Taiwan Issue that causes the strong opposition of China. Because of this, they can’t really make Taiwan independent. They never intended for Taiwan’s future earnestly.’

　　When I asked him about what he feels about Mainland and Chinese culture, he said that most Taiwanese like Chinese cultures and traditions but China followed Marxism instead of our traditional cultures. He thought that in several years, China didn\'t do anything useful to improve living qualities but held a lot of class struggle and broke up many families. So he thought as Taiwan knows more about China, more Taiwanese people want to be independent.

　　He additionally said that, in Taiwan, many people believe in Mazu or Guanyin and sacrifice to ancestries at home whereas people in China can’t have even free religion. That’s also one of the reasons why some Taiwanese don\'t like China.

　　At last, he summarize that, as Taiwanese have known more about China, they found that there are huge differences between the two governments, the ways people think, and the cultures, so more and more Taiwanese people don’t think they need the re-unification. Is there going to be one day that China can be unified? Nobody knows. If only China abandon the way it behaves so the ways the posterities think can be similar, they can decide whether they want unification or not.
